Viva la Guelaguetza y Viva Oaxaca

Hola amigos,

We are exactly one month away from our beautiful reunion in Oaxaca. I hope you are all as excited as we are to have an amazing time together.

This time is very special in Oaxaca. The end of July is when the Oaxacans celebrate the Guelaguetza, a festival that brings together all of the eight different regions of the state of Oaxaca and in which they share with everyone who participates their music, dances, products, and mostly their love for their culture.  I dare to say that our reunion is kind of our mini, much more humble, version of this beautiful festival.

The word Guelaguetza comes from the Zapotec original term “guendalizaá”. This term can be understood/translated as “offering”, “present”, or “fulfilment”, although the deeper meaning incorporates the concept of cooperation, support, and sharing in a reciprocal way. It’s kind of like saying, “I am sharing what I have with you and I know that one day you’ll also share what you have with me”.

Here we are at Guelaguetza in 2018

This concept is exactly what made us fall in love with Oaxaca because it lines up with who we are as well, with our values, and joie de vivre. We love all of you tremendously and we feel so honoured to be able to, from time to time, share special moments of our life with you.

Thank you for choosing to make the trip (or driving from your Oaxaca home if you’re local) and celebrating with us.

PS.: If you have questions keep on sending them over. We are here to help. You can also check the previous posts for more info. We will post one more time before we leave for Oaxaca.

besos y abrazos,

Gil & Mere
