Hola amigos y amigas,

We are less than four months away from our celebration weekend in Oaxaca. The RSVPs are in and Meredith and I are continuously working on the arrangements.

Here are some of the things we confirmed in these past two weeks:

  • August 14th, Friday evening: Oaxaca Mi Amor Celebration Dinner at the AirBNB.

    • We are still finalizing the dinner menu but we already contracted a local tlayuda caterer to prepare a delicious main course of the most tradicional Oaxacan dish: tlayudas (see photo)

    • We will also prepare an communal appetizer spread with some local yummies and also a desert and coffee to conclude the dinner.

    • After that we can enjoy some down time at the AirBNB or go out for some Mezcal with friends.

  • August 15th, Saturday evening. Mezcal cocktails, small bites, and dance party at Oruga Oaxaca.

    • Oruga is a Mezcalería, Art Gallery, and Vinyl Bar located just a few blocks from the AirBNB and we were able to reserve the whole space for us from 6pm to 10pm on Saturday night. We will provide the small bites (esquites & elotes, and molotes) and the bar will have all sorts of beverages for purchase. Oh and the turntables will be open if any of our DJ friends want to drop in some inspiring beats on vinyl. Mere and I will obviously bring our selection and play for you.

The next step is for us to start booking our tours. Within the next month or so I'll definitely have more info on that. But then the plan is to go on a tour Friday during the day, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, also during the day.

One last thing. We know that right now airfare prices are still higher than usual but we're hopeful that prices should come down a bit once the war is over (hopefully soon). Regardless we're planning, making payments to the vendors in Oaxaca, and the celebration is still happening.

Remember that "joy is the greatest form of resistance". We are aware and hoping for things to get better in the U.S. and around the world but we are of the philosophy that finding happiness, dancing, or laughing in the face of oppression, despair, or injustice is a radical act of defiance.

Tons of love,

Gil & Meredith ♡
